YAYA (Youth and Young Adults)

United Methodist Church, Germany Central Conference
Three conferences (East Germany, North Germany, South Germany) build the Germany Central Conference. About 500 congregations throughout Germany, serve 60,000 people. Many United Methodists live a passion for world mission as well as for engaging themselves in the neighborhood communities. Evangelism, diaconal work, and social engagement form the Methodist movement from the beginning until today.
We are a small but vital part of the worldwide Methodist movement, and we are excited to take part in the 10-Fold effort to engage people in mission through sharing examples from all over the world, and raising money as seed money for people who invest themselves in mission. The focus on children, youth, and young adults is a focus of our engagement with the partner churches worldwide, as well as of many local churches in Germany.

We’re Bringin’ Mission Back!
Young adult mission opportunities such as the US-2 and Mission Intern programs allow young people to be in service to the church. Young adults in the US-2 program serve for two years in a domestic, two-year, faith-and-justice-based placement site, learning to examine prevalent current issues through a theological lens. The Mission Interns serve in a three-year program divided into an 18-month international work/study placement and an 18-month action/education assignment in their own country. It is an opportunity for young people to hear the prophetic voice of communities and individuals around the world who are working for systemic change, and to apply that experiential learning to their home context.
In addition to the US-2 and Mission Intern programs, the General Board of Global Ministries also educates future leaders about the mission work and giving channels of The United Methodist Church through the B1 Campaign. B1 is a 24-hour fasting campaign that educates youth and young adults about the systemic issues sustaining poverty in the world, while also raising funds for Advance mission projects addressing these issues worldwide.
And now, through the Young People’s Justice Initiative (YPJI), Global Ministries partners with the poor by advocating for and with “the least of these.” This initiative will engage young people in short-term empowerment through education, exposure, and action planning. The YPJI will support and strengthen young leadership within the church and within local communities. The YPJI supports community involvement in mission and education, which aims to transform systems and/or behaviors that affect the health, safety, and human rights of individuals, families, and communities.
This initiative will support specialized training events for and by young people. Global Ministries will partner with youth and young adult networks of racial/ethnic caucuses to develop strategies and create awareness of the initiative. Social media will be utilized to foster connectional relationships with participating young people around the world.
